Heretical Orthodoxy provides a new historical account of the relationship between Lev Tolstoi and the Russian Orthodox Church. Pål Kolstø analyses the connections and influences of Orthodox teachings on Tolstoy’s religious thinking, and also investigates how the Russian Orthodox Church reacted to Tolstoi’s religious ideas and attempted to counteract them.
